M1 (U24) - Discuss how the industry has utilised developments in technologies
In the last couple of years the advertising industry has been growing rapidly in terms of the technologies being used and how they have been applied within the industry.
The first way the advertising industry has developed is via using social media and other apps where converging technology comes in to use, for example many advertisements are now done through youtube, the reason for this is that is very cheap and very effective at the same time. There are many 'YouTubers' with millionns of followers and subscribers and if you are able to get an advert before their video begins you will have millions of people viewing the ad for at least five seconds so it is important within that five seconds what is being advertised is being shown and it is straight to the point so there is a better chance of the advert being taken notice of. Another app that is now used for advertisement quite frequently is Snapchat. The advertisement on Snapchat is shown after a user views someone else's story and then the advertisement will be shown. This is an effective method of advertising as many people view stories on Snapchat so it is a great and cheap way of getting a product out to its market and it is a good use of converging technology.
As well as the advancement in technology within the advertising industry this includes how the advertisements are distributed. An example of this is now not many people have to go to their local corner shop to get a newspaper and it is now accessible also through Snapchat. The Snapchat users are reeled in to subscribing to the newspapers via Snapchat as they put the best stories on and then cut the second half out and you have to subscribe to read on. This is much easy for people rather than having to go out when they can access it through their mobile phones.
There has now even been technological advancements within billboard advertisements, where companies use to present their adverts on just big still images on them not moving and now they have turned in to big televisions on the side of the road with moving images. This is effective as many people will be able to take notice of it and it will be a lot more eye catching and will be able to create more of a meaning behind the adverts and show the audience more of a story behind the adverts.
Another advancement in technology that has been utilised within the advertising industry is the advancement in television picture, for example now many TV's that are made now have high definition and 4K Ultra-HD and now companies are able to produce their adverts with better picture meaning they can add better effects and just make the ad look better in general and the advert will look a lot better to the audience and they will be able to see it in good detail and it will make the product being advertised look better in general.
Lastly another way that the advertising industry has utilised development in technology is through QR codes. QR codes are effective in the advertising industry as it will make the customers/target market feel more connected to the advert. A QR Code is a machine-readable code consisting of an array of black and white squares, companies use this within their advertisements so customers can feel more connected to it and it is easily accessible as they are able to scan it with their mobile phones which leads to them getting more information on the advertisements. It is often put in to magazines and is now beginning to be seen in many more places such as TV adverts and on buses and at bus stops so many people will be able to use them and it is something that is growing within the industry.
