LO2 (U24): Understand the behaviours, skills and attributes necessary within the advertising industry.
Script for a piece to camera that:
Explains how personal behaviours and attributes affect career development opportunities (M2)
Personal behaviour and attributes can affect career development opportunities within the directing industry in many different ways. Personal behaviour and attributes are very important in the advertising industry as it is an industry where you will have to work with many different people and be able to communicate well so it is important that yourself and colleagues will be able to maintain a good relationship otherwise it will be hard to work with each other and can potentially give you a bad reputation as an individual which may limit your opportunities in your career within the directing industry.
When you first start off in the directing industry it is quite often that you would find yourself low down in the chain of jobs and will have to work your way up through the ranks e.g. will probably start off as a runner for films and adverts so that you get experience within the industry. When you start off low down it is important that you have to build a good relationship with the people you work with so that you can start building yourself a good reputation so that people will want to work with you. It will probably help if you can gain as many contacts as possible in the industry so you have a slightly better chance of getting work. If you start off with a bad attitude it is unlikely you will make it too far in the directing industry this is because if people start to dislike you would not be offered many jobs as people know you as someone who is difficult to work with.

As someone that works in the advertising industry you will need a specific skill set in terms of behaviour and attributes in order to achieve a successful career. Some of the attributes include:
- Confidence - Depending on your job role, confidence is key. Within the advertising industry job roles such as an actor, a cinematographer (for taking pictures for billboards/social media posts), art designer, project manager need to have confidence in not only their ability, but the ability of their working peers.
- Good communication skills - Again depending on your job role this is also very important specifically for job roles such as a director who would have to tell everyone where to be on set and project management so they can communicate to everyone else when to have stuff ready by and give briefs and deadlines.
- Organised - Everyone involved within the industry have to be organised whether you are high up or low down organisation is minimal expectation.
- Can work to deadlines - This is probably mainly down to the directors in terms of getting everything filmed for the adverts then it will be down to the editors to finish it off.
- Strictness - Specifically for a director and project manager it is important that their staff do what they have to do and if they are doing it wrong the project manager and director would have to tell them that they have to work up to standard and expectation.
- Good leadership skills - This applies for project manager directors it usually helps if you have experience and confidence as it would help people new to the profession feel at ease.
All these attributes will lead to having a success in a advertising industry and hopefully would lead to directors getting the jobs they desire.
There are many different opportunities the directing industry, you must first start off lower down and get good contacts and should be a runner to help develop your skills and be able watch other directors at work and take tips from them and use them in the future. There are many different opportunities from being a director. You could be the director of an advertising agency, a director of a movie premier, the director of a movie, all these directors offer a wide variety of opportunities. As a director, the job role is to direct people on what to do, where to be and how things should be done, if the role is done successfully, there is a good potential that a good piece of media will come as a result, whether it is a movie and the movie is on a low budge, yet it still gets good reviews or if it is an advertisement on TV and the advertisement gathers a lot of sales.
